Meet Recap

The 2017 Hill and Bale Invitational is in the books. The race was held at Fremont Middle School and the weather was great. We had a great group of volunteers show up to make the event run smoothly. We had several parents, the high school FFA group, teachers, administrators and Fremont XC supporters helping. I want to thank all of them for the work they did and complement them on smoothly they ran things.
It was a good day racing for the Packers. The varsity girls got things started with a 2nd place finish to Reeths-Puffer. The times may not show it but this was a great race for the team. The course is long and there are 17 hay bale jumps to navigate. We are really improving on our 2nd and 3rd miles and running more even splits. Riley Sweet (sr) led the team again with a 4th place finish. Emma Metz (so) and Sierra Horton (fr) both ran a PR so they were really moving. I was really happy with how the girls moved up. Claire Whittle (jr) ran across a big gap by herself to catch a couple of girls in the last mile. The girls JV squad had the first 5 finishers to score 15 points against all divisions. We had some good racing out of this group also. Mikayla Slovinski (fr) and Alyssa Gustman (so) both ran PRs on a long course. Leah Converse (fr) moved up well over the 2nd half of the race as did Erin Norton (fr).
Ben Schmidt (sr) and Nathan Walker (fr) placed 1 – 2 to lead the boys to the win scoring 31 points. Both boys got out front early and stayed there. Nathan was challenged in the second mile, but he took a firm grip on 2nd in the last mile. Carter Moon (so) had his best race of the season to place in the top 10 and start to close down our gaps a little.
The JV boys placed 1-8 to dominate the JV race. Cy Frankhouser (jr) won the race and his time earned a spot back on varsity. Seven LaRoue (so) and Gavin Orcutt (so) both had season records. Running huge PRs were Nathan Johnson (fr), Andrea Lauri (sr), and Jackson Fair (fr). All three looked really good today.
